Nonfiction Book Club Project


i-love-books-books-to-read-18694968-500-445We love books!  We love reading!  And, we love learning new facts, ideas, and perspectives.  For the next two weeks, we are going to focus on nonfiction 0328175196books.  (What’s the difference between fiction and nonfiction? Click here!)

We begin our nonfiction unit with three books that correlate to what we’re The Transcontinental Railroadlearning right now in social studies:  Crossing the Nation by Rail, Rails Across America, and The Transcontinental Railroad.  Check out our Nonfiction Book Club Groups here.

For our book project, due Friday, May 3, you will create trading cards about what you learned from your texts. through Trading Card Creator.  You can choose between these topics for your cards:

  • Real person (examples: Theodore Judah, Leland Standford, President Andrew Johnson…)
  • Physical object (examples:  transcontinental railroad, Union Pacific line, gold spike…)
  • Event (examples:  gold rush, Civil War, May 10, 1869…)
  • Real place (examples: Promontory, Utah; Sierra Nevada; Omaha, Nebraska…)
