What Is Traditional Haiku?


Traditional haiku always contains five (5) syllables, the second line seven (7) syllables, and the third line contains five (5) syllables.

Here are some examples of traditional haiku.  Notice the five-syllable, seven-syllable, five-syllable pattern on each of these haiku.

  1. I really enjoyed the idea of trees reaching. It reminds me of a modern dance we did in college, where we were all trees, our arms the branches reaching up into the sky. I enjoyed all of the Haikus.
